NADA EAR ACUPUNCTURE

The NADA Protocol

5NP (Five needle protocol) aka NADA is a simple ear acupuncture or no-needle acupressure protocol delivered in group settings. It makes use of up to 5 acupuncture points on the ear. NADA is most commonly used to help people with emotional health, PTSD, cravings and withdrawal, and chronic stress.

Advantages of NADA

Non-verbal/talk-free, no fuss, no judgement, no complicated or differential diagnosis

simple, barrier-free access

How it Works

We will offer a gentle placement of up to 5 tiny needles in each ear to promote your inner calm and grounded self.  We’ll set up a quiet atmosphere for everyone to rest while sitting silently next to others in the community.
The sessions last 20-45 minutes and are very relaxing.

Know your NADA History

Jenna Bliss’ 2018 documentary, The People’s Detox addressess  the history of a revolutionary drug clinic. She shows the roles the Black Panthers and Young Lords played in helping their communities reclaim the power to heal, using among other things, group acupuncture.

“anytime we create space for people to just be present, while at the same time not be isolated, it becomes an opportunity for people to step into a deeper universal connection to humanity. Silence when shared in a safe space is a powerful medium for cultivating solidarity.”

Join The People's Organization of community acupuncture

(POCA) is a member-run non-profit organization whose mission is to work cooperatively to increase accessibility to and availability of affordable group acupuncture treatments. We envision a world in which every community has access to local, affordable acupuncture to reduce collective and individual suffering and to nurture resilience.

We acknowledge the debt we owe, as community acupuncturists, to the Young Lords and the Black Panthers, two groups challenging racism and oppression in the 1970’s who fought to bring affordable group acupuncture into their communities to address the scourge of addiction.

Huey Newton and the Black Panther Party played a direct historical role in introducing community acupuncture models and Chinese medicine practices to the U.S. after visiting China in 1971. While Newton led the historic delegation, party members and affiliated medical figures like Dr. Tolbert Small actually observed and studied these techniques firsthand to bring back for community health clinics.

How Acupuncture Helps

Acupuncture for respiratory health can provide relief on physical, mental & emotional levels.
In our Somerville clinic we find treatments predictably help to clear sinus pressure & headaches & reduce tension in the chest and neck, all of which  encourage easier breathing. Specific conditions we’ve found respond well to acupuncture include:

  • shallow breathing
  • chest tightness
  • sinus headaches
  • seasonal allergies
  • difficulty fully relaxing into the breath
  • Stress, overwhelm, grief, anger & PTSD
  • Helping the muscles around the chest, shoulders and neck relax
  • tobacco cravings & smoker’s cough
  • chronic cough
  • post-viral fatigue,
  • frequent colds
  • headaches associated with sinus issues

Respiratory health helps improve energy and over all physical and mental/emotional health.

How Acupuncture Helps

Acupuncture has been shown to reduce inflammation & stress and boost immune function and clear mucus.
For chronic respiratory conditions, acupuncture works alongside western medical care.

Additionally, acupuncture helps in addictions including smoking.

The NADA ear acupuncture protocol is commonly used to help with addictive cravings & PTSD. There are further acupuncture points on the ears and body to help to clear the lungs as part of Quit-Smoking strategy.
