Acupuncture for Anxiety & Stress
Anxiety and stress are some of the issues people most often request help with when they start at Open Space Community Acupuncture. Acupuncture has traditionally been used to help restore health on a physical, mental emotional and spirit level. The first thing many people notice, regardless of what brings them in, is how profoundly relaxing acupuncture can be.
A side effect of almost any acupuncture treatment in reduced stress. We also tailor treatments to calm the nervous system, help with sleep, fatigue, PTSD and overwhelm.
A helpful aspect of community acupuncture is that we can address trauma without a person having to go into the history.
Unlike talk therapy there are very few words needed for us to begin treatment. Sometimes we may ask where in your body you feel it when you have stress. This both helps direct our treatment and brings mindfulness to your experience of stress.

Why community Acupuncture?
Our sliding scale is meant to make it possible to come regularly.
This helps in a couple of ways. For many, predictable routines are a comfort to the nervous system. Set a rhythm of acupuncture, whether once or twice a week to start, and make self care a part of your schedule.
Secondly, acupuncture is cumulative and tends to hold longer as you go. Consistency and frequency at first help build momentum and set a foundation for results in your mental and emotional health.
How Acupncture Helps Mental Health
We know acupuncture can help regulate the nervous system, improve circulation, and effect hormones and endorphins firing in the brain. The mystery but common experience is how acupuncture helps the body and mind wake up to its own ability to heal.
Acupuncture works by:
Increasing circulation
Reducing inflammation
Helping the nervous system reset.
Over time, this allows the body to move out of tension and into a more balanced state.
The goal of consistent treatment for emotional health is improved mood, better sleep, and greater resilience to stress.

Join The People's Organization of community acupuncture
(POCA) is a member-run non-profit organization whose mission is to work cooperatively to increase accessibility to and availability of affordable group acupuncture treatments. We envision a world in which every community has access to local, affordable acupuncture to reduce collective and individual suffering and to nurture resilience.
We acknowledge the debt we owe, as community acupuncturists, to the Young Lords and the Black Panthers, two groups challenging racism and oppression in the 1970’s who fought to bring affordable group acupuncture into their communities to address the scourge of addiction.
