Our Mission | Healing, Community Acupuncture & Social Justice

Health Is Not Individual; It’s Collective*

Our mission is to be an oasis for accessible mental and physical health and to be a part of creating a healthy, inclusive and just community. We recognize that individual health is tied to community health.

Our patients’ symptoms don’t exist in a vacuum.

The healing sparked by community acupuncture treatment ripples out into families, workplaces & community.

Equally, stressors and injustices in community show up as health consequences in our clinic.

As we bring the healing our tiny needles and shared healing space can so powerfully bring, we also consider context and stand with efforts to create health in our community.

Solidarity and Statement of Inclusion

Open Space Acupuncture stands in solidarity with the liberation movement of the Palestinian people. We recognize that individual health is inseparable from collective justice. The ongoing occupation, displacement, and violence against Palestinians devastate physical and mental health -both in Palestine and in diaspora communities, including here in Somerville. As a community acupuncture clinic rooted in accessibility and mutual care, we affirm that healing work must stand against oppression.

At Open Space we recognize the equal dignity of every human being, and support efforts to uphold this truth. We recognize that anti-racism, collective liberation, bodily autonomy & opposition to oppression are all essential to the health of a community. We denounce all forms of systemic oppression, including racism, queermisia, transmisia, xenomisia, sexism, ableism, anti-fat bias, casteism, Islamomisia, and antisemitism. We recognize that settler-colonialism, caste hieracrchy, arbitrary detention, racial profiling, separation of families and all other forms of racism and oppression both devastate immediately impacted communities and also have downstream effects on all of humanity.

Injury to any is injury to all.

We stand in solidarity with anti-oppression and community building efforts. We affirm our commitment to promoting physical and mental health as part of the broader struggle for justice and liberation.

Muslims, Jews, people of all faiths and no faith are welcome here as are all sexual orientations, ethnicities & immigrant statuses.

Let’s Cooperate

The fight for justice is a long haul and we believe in collective care’s role in liberation. Through community acupuncture we offer refuge & a place to come in with friends or on your own to get re-resourced & address physical and mental health.

We are on call to provide healing services at any upcoming protests or actions.

If you are part of a community impacted by systemic harm, or work in solidarity/justice and want to:

  • Bring free or discounted acupuncture to your community
  • Collaborate on a fundraising event
  • Use our space for a meeting or gathering
  • Have us help amplify your message
  • Bring our attention to resources and collaboration opportunities we can share
