Acupuncture for Allergies and Respiratory Health

Acupuncture for respiratory health can provide deep relief on physical, mental & emotional levels.

People seek acupuncture for respiratory health when they experience:

  • shallow breathing
  • chest tightness
  • sinus headaches
  • seasonal allergies
  • difficulty fully relaxing into the breath
  • Stress, overwhelm, grief, anger & PTSD
  • Helping the muscles around the chest, shoulders and neck relax
  • tobacco cravings & smoker’s cough, etc
  • chronic cough
  • post-viral fatigue,
  • frequent colds
  • headaches associated with sinus issues

Because respiratory health affects energy, sleep, focus, and overall quality of life, even small improvements in breathing can make a noticeable difference.

How Acupuncture Helps

Acupuncture works by:

  • Settling the nervous system
  • Helping the body clear congestion from sinus and lungs
  • Reducing inflammation
  • Boosting the immune system
  • reducing addictive cravings
  • helping on an emotional level with stress, anxiety, irritability and PTSD
  • helping the muscles around the chest, shoulders and neck relax

Whether a person indicates a primarily physical or emotional issue, acupuncture tends to work on both levels.

How often Should I come?

Being able to come in regularly is an advantage of community acupuncture!

Acute concerns often clear up rapidly, even from a single treatment.

However, most people feel the biggest shifts when they come regularly at first, sometimes 2-3 times per week, and then spread treatment out as things improve.

Our sliding scale ($35–$50, with a $30 hardship rate) is designed to make that possible. Sessions typically last 40–60 minutes.

Join The People's Organization of community acupuncture

(POCA) is a member-run non-profit organization whose mission is to work cooperatively to increase accessibility to and availability of affordable group acupuncture treatments. We envision a world in which every community has access to local, affordable acupuncture to reduce collective and individual suffering and to nurture resilience.

We acknowledge the debt we owe, as community acupuncturists, to the Young Lords and the Black Panthers, two groups challenging racism and oppression in the 1970’s who fought to bring affordable group acupuncture into their communities to address the scourge of addiction.

Black Panther party leader Huey Newton returned late to San Francisco from a visit to China where he said he petitioned Chairman Mao Tse-tung to be chief negotiator to President Nixon, "For the peace and freedom of the oppressed people of the world." Newton (L), said that he did not actually meet with Mao Tse-tung, but presented his petition to Chinese Premier Chou En-lai. (Photo by Bettmann Archive/Getty Images)
