What is community acupuncture

Community acupuncture is the practice of treating patients  together in a large room. At OSCA each person gets an individualized treatment addressing their specific needs. The atmosphere is quiet/meditative, with many falling asleep once their needles are in.

Acupuncture For the community

Community Acupuncture is win/win.  Low rates allow you to come in often enough to get better and stay better. Healing together with others creates an atmosphere where each treatment is all the more effective.

OSCA is a member of the People’s Organization of Community Acupuncture (POCA), and you can join too! Membership fee: $25/year.  We appreciate your support and offer community members $20 treatments the months of May and October, & more!

How can we help you...

Address stress and acute or chronic conditions while resting deeply in our comfy recliners. Our skilled acupuncturists have delivered over 30,000 acupuncture treatments since we opened, May 1st 2011.

Did you know...

Mutulu Shakur, stepfather to Tupac Shakur, along with members of the Black Panther Party and the Young Lords, pioneered America’s first acupuncture detoxification program by blending community health efforts with radical political action. Their goal was to find a holistic method to help Black and Hispanic communities overcome heroin addiction.

How can acupuncture benefit you

By inserting thin needles into specific points on the body, called acupoints, which are believed to stimulate the nervous system, causing the body to release natural chemicals like endorphins that can help relieve pain and promote healing.

Headaches and Migraines

Including tension headaches and other types of chronic headaches.

Chronic pain

Such as lower back pain, neck pain, and sciatica.

Menstrual cramps

Can help alleviate discomfort associated with menstruation.

Nausea and vomiting

Particularly related to chemotherapy or surgery.

Anxiety and stress

Helps regulate the nervous system and reduces anxiety symptoms.

Insomnia

Improves sleep quality by addressing underlying stress or pain.

Testimonials

Michael Meo

“I started going to Open Space at the beginning of last summer. I had severe lower back pain and nothing else could kick it. Daphne listened sensitively to my issues and provided me with gentle, responsive care. It’s incredible, after each session I could feel myself getting healthier and stronger…. I recommend Open Space to all my friends”

Christian Flannery

“Really comfortable, charming, and reassuring environment! … I’ve gone twice thus far and have been progressively able to handle stress in a more healthy way. I was also roped in by the August Teacher Special! Having acupuncture be affordable and showing an appreciation for teachers (and their stress level) makes it really obvious that Open Space is truly invested in community well-being. I’ll definitely be going back.”

Emily Lemiska

“Due to a slew of serious health problems… I would go in horrible pain, sometimes in tears, and leave feeling so much better both mentally and physically. Best of all, it’s affordable — so you actually can do it regularly. Don’t worry about the group atmosphere. She somehow manages to make it still feel private and as if you are the only person there. Try it out — you won’t regret it!”
